Our morning thoughts here.
JP is a born and raised Nebraska boy, growing up in a small town south of Lincoln. A Crete High grad, a Doane College alum & earned his Associates Degree in Communications from Southeast Community College.
He’s been working in radio in the city for 14 years, 12 of which in Country Radio now in his 4th year as the Program Director for New Country KX 96.9 & Morning Host of the JP & Lauren with Husker Nick Show. Along with those responsibilities, JP is in his 4th year as The Voice of Husker Women’s Basketball in the Pinnacle Bank Arena & finished his 2nd year as The Voice of Husker Soccer. Along with that he also serves as an MC and volunteering with groups such as the American Cancer Society, Children’s Hospital, St. Monica’s, The Down Syndrome Association for Families, Farmer’s Bureau and Many more.
A Husker fan & sports fanatic, JP is an admitted Pop Culture junkie. If you ask JP anything about movies, music, television, books, celebrities or sports, you’ll probably get an answer faster than if you asked Siri!
When he’s not working JP is volunteering as a Baseball & Basketball coach for the Jr. Saltdogs & YMCA teams his kids are on. Also he helps out the St. Mark’s Youth Group and is in his 4th year as a Coach for Lincoln Elks Midget Football.
Let’s be honest– you probably think Lauren arrived from California yesterday with her husband and 16 children. Thanks for that, JP and Nick.
In reality, Lauren moved to Lincoln in 2004, which mean she’s been here for as long as Facebook has existed. As we all know, nothing that mattered happened before Facebook, so basically she’s lived here forever. She and her husband have four kids, which is a lot, but not exactly the Duggars. So back off. That also means she doesn’t sleep a lot, which coupled with running after the aforementioned many children can make her cranky. JP and Nick are often the targets of that crankiness, but they probably deserve it.
Before joining the KX morning show, Lauren was the weekday evening anchor on Channel 8 Eyewitness News (and yes, Rod Fowler really is as nice as he seems, and yes, news anchors are always wearing pants under the desk). She prefers working in radio to television because she really hates doing her hair. Before that, she produced a weekly news show for her hometown in hippy-dippy Southern California. Lauren is a UCLA graduate who considered majoring in Microbiology, Early Childhood Education, and Opera Performance before settling on Communication Studies (because that makes perfect sense, right?)
Lauren writes a monthly parenting column and covers performing arts for L Magazine, and performs in local musicals and cabarets as much as she can. Aside from her husband Paul and those four pesky kids, theater is the love of her life.
If Lauren were a candle, she’d smell like guacamole, feminism, snark, and jazz hands.
